Bogor, 20 August 2025 – Minister of Environment, Mr Hanif Faisol Nurafiq, together with Indocement CEO, Mr Christian Kartawijaya, conducted a direct inspection of the Nambo Integrated Waste Treatment and Processing Facility (TPPAS) in Bogor Regency. This visit serves as tangible evidence of the government’s strong commitment to finding solutions to the challenges of municipal solid waste (MSW) management in Indonesia.
As a follow-up, a meeting was held at the Indocement Citeureup facility, attended by Indocement management, representatives of the West Java Provincial Government, and the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). On this occasion, ASI presented the cement industry’s perspective and held direct discussions with the Minister of Environment regarding strategic steps for national waste management.
This meeting reinforced previous discussions between ASI and the Minister and officials of the Ministry of Environment, while also confirming the government’s seriousness and strong support from Indocement’s leadership in realising concrete solutions to the issue of urban waste in Indonesia.
One of the main solutions being promoted is the utilisation of urban waste as Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) as an alternative fuel in cement factories. ASI and the cement industry are ready to fully support this initiative as RDF offtakers, by encouraging stakeholders to:
- Developing a clear and sustainable business model
- Implementing proven technology
- Ensuring consistent RDF quality standards
Through close collaboration between the government, industry associations, the business community and local governments, waste can be transformed into a valuable resource, reducing emissions and accelerating the transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable Indonesia.
