Cement Industry Ready to Support RDF for Integrated Waste Management

Cianjur, 9 August 2025 – The Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the use of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) as part of an integrated waste management solution in West Java.
During the Integrated Waste Management Coordination Meeting led by the Governor of West Java, Mr Dedi Mulyadi, and with special guidance from the Minister of Environment, Mr Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, strategic steps were outlined to end open dumping practices and encourage the conversion of waste into RDF.

Currently, RDF facilities are already operating in Sukabumi, while Cimahi and Palimanan have also started producing RDF, albeit with limited capacity. In the future, the Nambo Integrated Waste Management Facility (TPST) in Bogor Regency is projected to become a strategic facility with large capacity to serve the surrounding area. The cement industry itself has proven the effectiveness of RDF since the pilot project in Cilacap (SBI), which is now a national benchmark. In West Java, cement factories such as Indocement, SBI, and Semen Jawa are ready to absorb more RDF, while also contributing to emission reduction targets and sustainable waste management.

ASI fully supports the Ministry of Environment’s initiative to increase the use of RDF nationally. Long-term success requires supportive policies, adequate regional funding, appropriate technology, and consistent RDF quality. With strong collaboration between the government, regions, and industry, waste can be converted into an alternative energy source, thereby accelerating industrial decarbonisation while preserving the environment.
