Government Highlights Green Industry Standards for Cement Plants

Deputy Minister of Industry, Faisol Riza, recently highlighted the importance of green industry standards for cement factories in the country.

Suara.com – The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Industry, is getting serious about encouraging sustainable industrial practices. Deputy Minister of Industry, Faisol Riza, recently highlighted the importance of green industry standards for cement factories in the country.

Faisol said this during a working visit to the PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) Plant in Narogong, Bogor, West Java in order to see firsthand the implementation of green industry standards run by SIG’s subsidiary, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, earlier this week.

This signal shows the government’s commitment to ensuring that this strategic industrial sector is not only production-oriented, but also environmentally responsible.

“SIG Group has become an example of how industrial performance must comply with green industry standards. We understand that all companies in the cement industry sub-sector have a high commitment and have become examples of best business practices for other industries,” Faisol said.

He hopes that what has been done by the cement industry can be followed by industries and industry associations in other sub-sectors,” said Faisol Riza.

Faisol Riza added, based on Law No. 3 on Industry, the implementation of green industry is based on three main pillars, namely resource efficiency and effectiveness, environmental protection, and social benefits.

The emphasis on green industry standards for cement plants is a strong indication that the government will be increasingly strict in overseeing the operations of industries known to be energy-intensive and produce significant emissions.

“With this foundation, green industry not only supports the achievement of environmental targets but is also in line with the concept of green economy, which is a low-carbon, resource-efficient and socially inclusive economy,” he said.

“As has been conveyed that how SIG strives to innovate for resource efficiency and energy use, even its consistency is proven to get awards from the Ministry of Industry,” he added.

Similarly, Chairman of the Indonesian Cement Association, Lilik Unggul Raharjo said that the acceleration of the green industry is very important for the cement industry. In addition to contributing to decarbonization efforts in the country, it is also to anticipate carbon emission limitation policies, both those that will be implemented by the Government in the Carbon Economic Value policy, and also those set by export destination countries.

SIG President Director, Indrieffouny Indra expressed his gratitude for the Ministry of Industry’s support to SIG over the years, especially in the journey of transformation into a company that applies the principles of green industry and industry 4.0.

As a market leader in the national cement industry, SIG has a vision to become the largest building material solution provider in Indonesia that is oriented towards customers, best business practices based on sustainability principles, creating added value for stakeholders, and developing human resources.

SIG’s spirit of sustainability is based on the realization that development must go hand in hand with the current needs of mankind. Therefore, SIG seeks to map the challenges and opportunities to be fit for the future through decarbonization initiatives, the creation of innovative building material solutions, the implementation of a circular economy, water and nature conservation, and the creation of value for the community.

“SIG’s sustainability commitment is strengthened by a sustainability strategy that includes the creation of innovative and modern solutions, protection of the environment, and value creation for employees and communities. The three pillars of sustainability are realized through the implementation of good governance and upholding legal compliance, ethics, and integrity,” said Indrieffouny Indra.

The cement sector is one of the backbones of infrastructure development in Indonesia. However, along with the growth of development, challenges related to the environmental impact of the production process are also growing.
